Practitioners must be aware of the patient’s past medical history including allergies. These must be clearly documented as reactions and allergies can change over time. All aspects of the patient’s medical history are important, including conditions like:
- Diabetes: Assessing whether diabetes is well-controlled can be done by checking glycosylated haemoglobin or fructosamine levels if necessary, or by asking the patient about their glucose levels. Poorly controlled diabetes can increase the risk of infection.
- Thyroid: Thyroid disease is also important to consider, especially when injecting around the eyes. It’s worth noting that injecting neurotoxin near the crow’s feet can exacerbate conditions like hypervascular issues, dry eyes, itchy eyes, or watery eyes. Understanding the patient’s medical history is vital for standard medical reasons.
